Background of the Study:
Digital storytelling represents an innovative approach to cultural preservation by combining traditional narrative techniques with modern digital media. In Owo Local Government, Ondo State, this method has been increasingly utilized to document, share, and revitalize indigenous cultural heritage (Adeyemi, 2023). By leveraging multimedia elements such as video, audio, and interactive graphics, digital storytelling allows communities to preserve oral histories, folklore, and local traditions in a format that appeals to both older and younger generations (Femi, 2024). This fusion of technology and tradition has the potential to enhance cultural identity and promote intercultural understanding, particularly in areas where cultural practices are at risk of being lost. However, challenges such as technological barriers, limited funding, and the potential for cultural misrepresentation need to be addressed. This study investigates how digital storytelling is being implemented as a tool for cultural preservation in Owo, assessing its effectiveness in safeguarding cultural heritage while adapting to the digital age (Segun, 2023).

Statement of the Problem:
Despite the promising role of digital storytelling in cultural preservation, there is limited empirical evidence regarding its effectiveness in Owo Local Government. Issues such as technological limitations and potential misrepresentation of cultural narratives may undermine its impact. The study seeks to address these concerns by evaluating the use of digital storytelling as a means to preserve indigenous culture (Adeyemi, 2023).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To evaluate the impact of digital storytelling on cultural preservation in Owo Local Government.

  2. To identify challenges encountered in implementing digital storytelling initiatives.

  3. To propose strategies for enhancing digital storytelling for cultural preservation.

Research Questions:

  1. How effective is digital storytelling in preserving culture in Owo?

  2. What challenges hinder the use of digital storytelling in cultural preservation?

  3. How can digital storytelling methods be improved to better preserve indigenous culture?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Digital storytelling significantly contributes to cultural preservation in Owo.

  2. Technological and financial constraints negatively affect the quality of digital storytelling.

  3. Enhanced community engagement improves the effectiveness of digital storytelling.

Significance of the Study:
This study will offer critical insights for cultural policymakers and community leaders to harness digital storytelling as an effective tool for preserving indigenous heritage, ensuring that cultural identities remain vibrant in the digital era (Femi, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to evaluating the use of digital storytelling in cultural preservation in Owo Local Government, Ondo State.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Digital Storytelling: The practice of using digital media to tell stories that preserve cultural narratives.

  2. Cultural Preservation: The safeguarding and maintenance of cultural heritage and traditions.

  3. Indigenous Culture: The traditional customs, beliefs, and practices of local communities.
